Fashion: Newbury Street Agent Provocateur Sale Starts June 30th

Photo Courtesy of the Newbury Street Agent Provocateur

‘Tis the time of year when sales abound. While I love the idea of a proper sale, nothing disappoints me more than when markdowns are hyped, only to arrive at the store to find a meager rack with random sizes. In hopes of helping local fashionistas find sales worth their time and hard earned dollars, I recently got a sneak peek of the upcoming sale items at the luxurious lingerie boutique Agent Provocateur.

The cheekily named ‘Reduce ‘n’ Seduce Sale’ kicks off on Thursday, June 30, and I can verify that an ample amount of exquisite lingerie and nightwear will be marked down. Reductions will be up to 50% off and are available while in stock. Sale options range from classic and refined, to the (ahem) more flirty.

During a recent visit with the nice gals at Agent Provocateur , I got a firsthand look at the sale items and the overall boutique experience. Located at 123 Newbury Street just below the street level, stepping into the boutique makes one feel like they’re in a glam pink and black boudoir. From the overly plush carpeting, to the lacy motif on the walls and black chandeliers, I couldn’t help but appreciate the thought that went into creating a signature experience for Agent Provocateur shoppers.

Helpful associates, like the lovely Betsy and Nicole, add to that experience. Decked in figure flattering coats and hosiery, their job is to make even the most shy customers feel comfortable. Only one size of each lingerie item is displayed throughout the store, allowing associates to best help shoppers select the correct size and recommend similar options. It’s this personalized attention, combined with in depth of knowledge about lingerie construction and fabric choices, that keep well heeled Bostonians coming back each season.

Agent Provocateur is located at 123 Newbury Street, between Clarendon and Dartmouth. For more information about the sale, please visit the Agent Provocateur website. Happy shopping!

During The SavvyBostonian’s visit, she was given the deliciously smelling Agent Provocateur Maitresse  fragrance as a gift.

Spotted: Classic Novel Reusable Bags at Barnes & Noble in Boston

My reusable bag “collection” is an unimpressive assortment of freebies from various events. Calling it a collection is actually giving these bags more credit than they deserve, because minus the cute reusable lululemon bag from my colleague, I don’t have an affinity for any of them….until now.

Introducing a cheap yet chic new take on the eco-friendly bag from Barnes & Noble: classic novel reusable bags. Featuring vintage covers of famous novels like “Gone With the Wind,” “On the Road,” “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and more, the bags are cute and cost under three dollars. I purchased the “To Kill A Mockingbird” bag, but also adore the “Gone With the Wind” one.

Kudos to Barnes & Noble for coming up with this idea. Now, if only they come come up with a cute reusable bag design for my favorite books growing up, “The Catcher In the Rye,” or “The Secret Garden.” I’m not sure what I would do with myself, I’d be so excited.

The SavvyBostonian purchased her “To Kill A Mockingbird” reusable bag at the Barnes & Noble in the Prudential Center and you can too! Efforts to locate them online have been unsuccessful.

Bostonians React to Whitey Bulger’s Arrest

One newspaper stopped the presses in time

I almost didn’t believe it this morning when I turned on the TV in my Nashville hotel room and heard the news of Whitey Bulger’s arrest. My first thought? I instantly wished that I was in Boston, hearing the news coverage firsthand from the Boston news outlets. One of my friends phrased it perfectly when they said, “Cannot believe they finally caught Whitey Bulger. Not sure if folks outside of Boston understand how big of deal his capture is in this city.”

I lieu of being in Boston to chat about the story with friends and colleagues, I turned to Facebook and Twitter, both of which were brimming with comments. While many touched upon the significance of Bulger’s arrest, sharing news articles and commentary, others went in an entirely different direction. The blessing and curse of social media sites is that people can say anything they want and Bulger’s notable arrest is no exception.

As a result, I couldn’t resist sharing some of the entertaining posts and tweets I found on Facebook and Twitter – names removed to protect the commentators:

1. Osama’s dead….Bruins won the cup….and now they caught Whitey….WOW.

2. You had a good run Whitey, all good things come to an end.

3. I also enjoy a nice trip to Santa Monica. Good choice, Whitey.

4. OJ confesses and Whitey is captured in the same day. I’m sure there’s an Obama press conference taking credit coming.

5. Boss is all excited that Whitey is in the news. “His brother signed my diploma from UMass” – And people wonder why I got hired.

6. Whitey and I were apparently both in Santa Monica today.

7. Ah #WhiteyBulger looks like a sweet old man in his booking photo.

8. Will there now be a sequel to The Departed?

9. Love the idea I’ve seen on Twitter a few times today, that any news reader doing a piece about #WhiteyBulger should use a Southie accent.

10. Will they bring #WhiteyBulger home on a Duck Boat?

What was your reaction to the news of Whitey Bulger’s arrest?

Fashion: For the Love of Leopard

Zara Lepoard Scarf, $38

You may or may not have seen me strolling the streets of Boston, San Francisco, New York, or London with my favorite oversized Zara leopard scarf this past winter and spring. Call it a fashionable security blanket if you will, but I couldn’t resist the charms of this lovely half chestnut brown and half leopard scarf, $38, at Zara on 214 Newbury Street.

While immersed in my oversized leopard scarf bliss , never once did I realize I would have to part with my beloved scarf as the mercury rose. Luckily for me, the kind folks at Chico’s solved that problem for me. They gifted me with a lightweight, summery leopard print scarf that’s sure to travel in style with me throughout the summer. And, with the number of trips I have on the horizon this summer, I’m thrilled for a new, versatile accessory to jetset with.
