LONDON, NIGHTLIFE, RESTAURANTS

New On My London Guide: Japanese Pancakes, A Delightful Bakery, A Gourmet Sunday Roast & More!

If you haven’t seen it already, I keep a London Guide on my blog. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, my guide is packed with my recommendations for restaurants, bars and things to do by neighborhood.

This month, I’ve added a fantastic Japanese pancake place, a delightful bakery, a restaurant for a gourmet Sunday Roast, the perfect tapas spot, and a hidden cocktail den.

Abeno – The Perfect Japanese Pancake Place in Bloomsbury

Described as, “Europe’s only specialist ‘Okonomi-yaki’ restaurant,” Abeno is delicious. While the menu is vast and the staff incredibly helpful, my favorite was the savory pancakes. Add in a glass or two of plum wine and a lovely dining companion and I’ll be back anytime. Note: it’s first-come, first-served, no reservations! Unfortunately, the Covent Garden location has closed, but Abeno is still open in Bloomsbury.

Abeno is located at 47 Museum St, London WC1A 1LY in Bloomsbury.

Nordic Bakery

There used to be two Nordic Bakeries in Marylebone…but sadly they have both closed. However, if you’re in search of their delightful sandwiches, pastries, coffee and cinnamon buns, fret not. There still is one location left in London in Soho. What I like about Nordic Bakery compared to other bakeries in London is that the menu offerings are different and true to the bakery’s Nordic heritage. Plus, even if you do not have much of a sweet tooth, there are plenty of savory options. It’s definitely worth a try if you’re in the market for something different!

Nordic Bakery is located at 14a Golden Square, Soho, London W1F 9JG

No. 1A Duke Street

If you’re ever in Richmond, definitely check out No. 1A Duke Street. It’s such a cute neighborhood restaurant and bar. I’ve been twice now for brunch / Sunday Roast and each time, it has been divine. I know they are also an all-day spot, so whether you’re up for breakfast or cocktails, I imagine it would be a solid option. Pictured below is my roasted chicken Sunday Roast – yummmmm!

Barrafina

Barrafina is w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l – if you can snag a seat, that is! You cannot make a reservation at this delightful tapas spot, so be prepared to wait, especially at peak times. Plus, they also do take a break between lunch and dinner service times, so take note on their website. However, it’s totally worth the wait. The entire restaurant (at least the Soho ones I’ve visited) are all counter seating and the staff are very honest about the wait time when you arrive. They’re also quick to find you a place to perch with drinks / snacks if it’s available, which is fab. I’ve been a few times, but here are some photos below of the oh-so-yummy tapas cuisine.

Barrafina has a few locations, including Soho, Covent Garden, and now King’s Cross. The photos below are from the Dean Street location at 26-27 Dean Street, W1D 3LL

Disrepute

Allow me to introduce you to a hidden gem of a cocktail bar! Tucked below bustling Kingly Court on the edge of Oxford Circus and Soho, Disrepute is technically a member’s club bar, but non-members can book. Booking is highly recommended, but they do take walk-ins. The bar is dim, cozy and decorated in an oh-so-chic art deco style. It would be an awesome date spot, but I’ve also gone before with girlfriends to catch-up. The drinks are on the pricey side, but the experience makes it worth it. You’re welcomed with a free small amuse bouche type drink and the menu is put together in the most wonderful way. It changes from time to time, but the most recent one was delightfully naughty – and delicious.

Disrepute is located at 4 Kingly St, Soho, London W1B 5PW
